The Republic of Moldova Joins 105 governments in Commitments to Accelerate the Progress for all Women and Girls

Ahead of the High-level Week of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80), the Republic of Moldova reaffirms its commitment to ending gender-based violence, expanding childcare services and promoting equal pay for work of equal value.
New York, September – In a powerful display of multilateralism, the Republic of Moldova has joined 105 other governments in making commitments to accelerate progress for all women and girls by 2030. These pledges are part of the Beijing+30 Priority Actions Dashboard, launched by UN Women and showcasing 191 voluntary commitments to women’s rights and gender equality.
“This act of showing up for the rights of women and girls affirms a powerful truth: gender equality remains a unifying force for the world. And multilateralism is still committed to delivering an equal world for all women and girls”, said Sima Bahous, UN Women Executive Director.
In line with the visionary Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, adopted 30 years ago, Moldova’s pledges focus on three key areas: ending gender-based violence, expanding childcare, and promoting equal pay.
Moldova will ensure that victims and survivors of domestic violence receive high-quality support services. This includes a plan to increase shelter capacity from 182 to 260 places, with full accessibility for elderly victims and those with disabilities. The goal is to provide rehabilitation and reintegration services to 5,000 victims annually. The country will also train at least 85% of frontline staff in a victim-centered approach to care.
The country is committed to expanding public and private childcare, aiming to increase the number of children under age three enrolled in early education institutions by 1,000. This action is expected to boost the employment rate of women and their overall labor force participation rate.
Moldova will also work to promote pay transparency and ensure equal pay for work of equal value. This will be achieved through better enforcement of legislation, increased compliance by employers, and the institutionalization of gender-sensitive job evaluation standards. These actions are designed to lead to a more thorough and equitable implementation of equal pay principles.
At a high-level meeting of the General Assembly commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the United Nations, Ambassador Gheorghe Leucă, joined world leaders in underscoring these vital commitments. “As we reflect on the legacy of the Beijing Declaration platform of Action, the Republic of Moldova reaffirms its firm commitment to advancing gender equality and empowering all women and girls”, he said.
UN Women is calling governments to back commitments with actions and show that the rights of half the world’s population remain a unifying force and the foundation of sustainable development, peace, justice, and human rights for all.
