On World Humanitarian Day, UN Women highlighted the crucial role of women involved in managing the humanitarian response
Several women from the Republic of Moldova, who got involved from the first day, along with thousands of other women from our country, in helping people who fled the war in Ukraine, talked about their experience and motivation, but also about the importance of each of our contributions in providing support to people in need. Women gathered within the event organised by UN Women Moldova on the World Humanitarian Day, marked annually on August 19.
UN Women and WPHF enhance the voices of Moldovan women’s organizations in response to the humanitarian crisis
A delegation from the United Nations Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) - including its government donors from Austria, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom - visited the Republic of Moldova on 21-23 June 2022 to witness the impact of WPHF-supported partners and assess the unique needs of local women’s organizations as they work to protect women and girls on the front lines of the Ukraine refugee crisis.
UN Women and Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund firmly support civil society organisations engaged in humanitarian response in the Republic of Moldova
6 Moldovan civil society organisations, established and led by women and/or promoting the “Women, Peace and Security” Agenda, received financial support amounting to almost 1 mln USD from United Nations Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF), with support from UN Women Moldova.
As a part of continuous efforts for contributing to improving resilience of the most vulnerable groups against multiple crises, especially against the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermaths, UN Women initiated, at the end of 2021, the „Increasing the access of vulnerable women to food and essential supplies” project, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, financed by the Embassy Office of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Republic of Moldova.
In Moldova, UN Women Executive Director commits to advancing the empowerment and resilience of Moldovan and refugee women
UN Under-Secretary-General and UN Women Executive Director Sima Bahous visited the Republic of Moldova from 8 to 10 April to reaffirm UN Women’s commitment as a key partner to advance gender equality and women’s leadership in the country. During her visit, Bahous emphasized UN Women’s determination to support Moldova’s efforts as a host country to the thousands of refugees fleeing the war in neighbouring Ukraine.
UN Women Moldova, with financial support from Sweden, donates 60 wheelchairs and 40 walkers to the General Inspectorate of Border Police of MIA
The General Inspectorate of Border Police of MIA received a donation of 60 wheelchair and 40 walkers for people with reduced mobility or elderly people. The mobility equipment has been donated by UN Women Moldova with financial support from Sweden.
Women with disabilities from Moldova demand their place in political, economic and social decision-making
For the first time in the Republic of Moldova, 40 women with disabilities across Moldova, including from the left bank of the Nistru river, who want to get actively involved in the economic, social and political development of the country, participated in “We Have Abilities - We Want Possibilities!” National Forum.

The Program for enhancing the political and civic participation of women with disabilities in Moldova "We have abilities, we want possibilities!" was launched, for the first time, in Chisinau. 40 women with disabilities from different regions of the Republic of Moldova, including from ATU of Gagauzia and left bank of Nistru river took part in the first session of the program.
