On 17 June, in Chisinau, was launched Moldovan Women’s Parliamentary Caucus. Thanks to the Caucus, all its members will join their efforts to promote gender equality and equal rights for women and men, to prevent and combat violence against women and domestic violence, as well as to contribute to promoting economic independence and economic empowerment of women from the Republic of Moldova and family-friendly policies via initiative and legislative support.

An event dedicated to the Istanbul Convention took place at the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. Entitled „Joint dialogue – Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence from ratification to implementation”, it was organised on the platform of the Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration in collaboration with UN Women Moldova, National Coalition „Life without Domestic Violence” and with financial support from Sweden.

As a part of continuous efforts for contributing to improving resilience of the most vulnerable groups against multiple crises, especially against the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermaths, UN Women initiated, at the end of 2021, the „Increasing the access of vulnerable women to food and essential supplies” project, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, financed by the Embassy Office of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Republic of Moldova.

24 localities in Ungheni and Cahul districts will promote gender equality and raise awareness of gender-based violence through a large project dedicated to wall art (graffiti). In close collaboration with local authorities and the Urban Spirit, the campaign to raise awareness through mural art – Equality through art will begin this July. It will include a series of online and offline activities to promote gender equality, combat gender stereotypes, as well as encouraging girls and women suffering from violence to speak out and report cases of violence.

Over 700 people have attended the premiere of the theater performance „LIBERĂ” (“Free” - from Romanian), directed by Ianoș Petrașcu, at the National Philharmonic Hall in Chisinau, Moldova. The performance addresses the issue of violence against women and its repercussions on the future generation. It’s a play about patterns, written and unwritten laws of life. It is the story of a teenage girl, who faces gender stereotypes and her tumultuous path towards achieving her dream.
