The project seeks to facilitate an enabling environment for improved cross-river interconnection between communities and civil society, and foster social cohesion, by reducing tensions and enhancing mainstreaming of human rights and gender equality in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process.

This simplified version of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) was developed together with survivors of violence from Moldova. The guide contains only some CEDAW articles selected by women survivors of violence and are described from their point of view in order to help other women improve their knowledge and stand for their rights.

Positive Champion - The person who broke the norm and found ways to achieve greater results with the same resources. This term was coined by the women from Moldova who overcame violence and who are helping other women do the same.

In Moldova, violence against women is widespread and systemic phenomenon. According to the research undertaken by the National Bureau of Statistics there are more than 63 percent of women and girls aged 15-65 who have experienced at least one form of violence during their lifetime.

The significant progress obtained in addressing the issue of family violence in the Republic of Moldova is a real fact. Nevertheless, a number of legal, institutional, and policy gaps still persist and need to be tackled. In this context, it is very important to have data and evidence on the prevalence of violence against women, the factors determining this phenomenon, as well as the impact of violence on the health and well-being of women and on the family in general.
