In Moldova, violence against women is widespread and systemic phenomenon. According to the research undertaken by the National Bureau of Statistics there are more than 63 percent of women and girls aged 15-65 who have experienced at least one form of violence during their lifetime.

Nevertheless, a number of legal, institutional, and policy gaps still persist and need to be tackled. In this context, it is very important to have data and evidence on the prevalence of violence against women, the factors determining this phenomenon, as well as the impact of violence on the health and well-being of women and on the family in general.
