UN Women in Moldova is providing gender-responsive multi-sectoral services to individuals and communities most affected by the crisis in partnership with the Government, UN agencies, and specialized CSOs, in the framework of the Ukraine Refugee Response Plan 2023. This includes ensuring that refugee women, girls, men and boys have access to relevant, quality humanitarian assistance and support regardless of their sex, age, ability or status, and that their distinct needs, priorities and capacities are considered. It also involves assisting host communities who play an active role in welcoming and supporting refugees.

The project will promote a gender-sensitive refugee response at the regional and country levels by advancing gender-sensitive programming, financing and coordination within and across UN agencies, regional inter-governmental bodies and refugee-response structures. It will accomplish this goal by addressing the gender-specific impacts of Ukraine’s humanitarian and refugee crisis while simultaneously ensuring that women and those at risk have strengthened access to protection services and resources.

The Gender Barometer is the first comprehensive study in Moldova that addresses women's and men's involvement in politics and decision-making. The study was aimed to elucidate gender-specific challenges in politics (the general attitude towards the involvement of men and women in politics, in the life of the political parties, their intention to run, the specific challenges of the candidates, both men and women, in the election process, the activity of the local elected politician), as the decision making process (the level of information on the community development process, the local development priorities, the involvement on different stages of the decision making process). In Moldova, violence against women is widespread and systemic phenomenon. According to the research undertaken by the National Bureau of Statistics there are more than 63 percent of women and girls aged 15-65 who have experienced at least one form of violence during their lifetime.
