Regional Service for Victims of Sexual Violence in Ungheni: 101 beneficiaries assisted

Over two-year pilot phase, the Integrated Regional Service for Victims of Sexual Violence offered comprehensive support to 101 women survivors. Located in Ungheni and operated by the specialized service provider International Center “La Strada”, the Service provides medical, legal, psychological, and social support in one place, covering six districts: Ungheni, Fălești, Sîngerei, Călărași, Nisporeni, and Telenești. 

The Service's innovative approach provided a genuine platform for the Republic of Moldova, bringing together specialized service providers in one place to ensure that the needs of survivors are fully addressed, while avoiding the risk of re-traumatization and re-victimization. By centralizing services, the approach facilitates coordinated care, strengthens collaboration among professionals, and enhances the overall quality of support for survivors.

The Service offers timely, comprehensive and tailored care, including immediate medical and forensic examinations and access to emergency contraception. Over the past two years, 62,3% of survivors of violence received critical support within the four days following the abuse, aligning this timeframe with the international standard for urgent intervention. Additionally, the Service provided a range of specialized support, including psychological intervention and rehabilitation for 74 women, as well as  legal counseling for 30 women, an essential support for their long-term recovery and well-being.
