Assessment Report of cases examined by the Commission for Monitoring and Analysis of Domestic Violence Cases resulting in death or serious bodily harm to victims in 2024

The Republic of Moldova has strengthened its human rights protection framework by aligning national legislation with international standards, including through the ratification of the Istanbul Convention in 2021. GREVIO’s 2023 evaluation acknowledged the progress achieved while highlighting the need to expand measures addressing all forms of violence against women. In response, legislation was amended in 2024 to explicitly recognize violence against women and femicide. In addition, an intersectoral mechanism for monitoring severe cases of violence was established to identify systemic gaps and formulate concrete recommendations. The Commission’s annual report, prepared with the support of UN Women and funded by Sweden, contributes to strengthening the institutional response and preventing violence against women.
