Socio-Economic Analysis of Women’s Involvement in Rural Development Within the LEADER Approach
The report shows that women make up more than half of Moldova’s rural population, yet they continue to face barriers in accessing resources, economic opportunities, and local decision-making processes.
Although legislation guarantees equality, realities at community level point to low levels of women’s participation in leadership, shaped by persistent social norms and stereotypes. In this context, the LEADER approach provides a relevant framework for engaging women in local development; however, the lack of systematic analysis limits its tangible impact.
The report puts forward a clear assessment of women’s participation in Local Action Groups (LAGs) and outlines recommendations for more equitable rural policies, supported by UN Women, with funding from Sweden.
