Status of Women in the Security and Defense Sector: Between Stability and Transformation
In the Republic of Moldova, gender mainstreaming in the security sector is a priority, evidenced by the government’s commitments to international law, including through its National Action Plan for the Implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325. Moldova faces specific challenges, such as gender stereotypes, inadequate infrastructure and institutional policies that limit equal access for women.
In this regard, the National Action Plan (NAP) 2023-2027 aims to strengthen women's participation, combat discrimination and create effective monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. The new National Programme for the period 2023-2027 aims to respond to current challenges, such as security risks and the impact of humanitarian crises, and promote women's participation in decision-making processes in the security sector.
